F A Q Students Faculty/Staff Visitors News

Visitors are responsible for complying with all parking regulations.

Occasional Visitors

Occasional visitors should pick up a one-day visitor pass.  These are available from the Parking Services Office, the Visitor Center, the Information Booths, University Police Communications Center, and other designated locations across campus.  Passes are "counted" and identification required to obtain one.  After 4 FREE passes a visitor is required to pay $3.00 per day for additional passes.

Frequent Visitors

Visitor permit sales for fall, 2005 will begin the week of Aug.1, 2005

Frequent visitors, e.g., those visiting campus to use University facilities such as the library, the law library or the music practice rooms  should obtain a semester visitor parking permit from the Parking Services Office. The current cost of this permit is $99.50 per semester (only about $1.25 per day).  A Visitor’s Permit entitles parking in any white-lined or yellow-lined area NOT otherwise designated as reserved, e.g. dorm lots, etc.

Plan Ahead!

Students, faculty and staff planning to have guests park on either University campus can get a visitor pass in advance from the Parking Services Office, the Visitor Center, the Information Booths, and other locations as designated by Parking Services.

Departmental Visitor Parking

Options for 2004-05

Does your office have a number of visitors during the year? Additional options are available to colleges and departments for visitor parking at UT:

 Pay Lot and Validated Parking

The pay lot off of Bancroft Street is available for visitor parking at the following rates:

First ½ Hour

$0.50

1 hour

$0.75

1 – 1 ½ hours

$1.25

1 ½ - 2 hours

$1.75

3 hours

$2.25

4 hours

$4.00

5 hours

$5.00

6 hours

$6.00

6 Plus Hours

$7.00

Evenings after 4:30 pm

$1.50

Departments who wish to pay for their guests’ parking can purchase a validation stamp from Parking Services and the hourly charges for the visitor will be charged against the hosting department’s account monthly. Several offices already take advantage of this service and it is ideal for offices which have “drop in” visitors who only stay on campus for short periods. Send Parking Services a fast order requisition with your department’s name and the account number.

 Day Passes

Expecting someone who will be on campus for the entire day? In this case instead of using the pay lot or a meter a day pass can be purchased from Parking Services at the rate of only $3.00 per day using a fast order requisition (compare to the pay lot rate of $7.00 for 6 hours or more and the meter rate of $1.00 an hour). Parking Services will be happy to mail out permits in advance to your visitor (please allow at least a week) or, with one days notice, your visitor can stop by our office at 1610 Rocket Hall, the Parking Information Booth next to the East Parking Ramp, or the Scott Park Parking Information Office (in the old NAS building next to the Freshman Parking Lot) and pick up a pass directly.

Meters

Parking meters are available across all areas of campus (including Engineering and Scott Park) for those visitors who are just dropping in for a few minutes. The meter rate is 25 cents per fifteen minutes for a maximum use of two hours.  These meters cannot be force-fed beyond their rated time.

Large Group or Conference Coming In?

If you expect a large group (30 or more cars for example) coming to campus, please contact us to arrange parking for your event. We will work with Campus Police to ensure that parking spaces are available. In some cases, lots may be reserved for your event. Rates for this service vary based on the number of spaces required. Please remember that when classes are in session most lots are needed for our students and may not be available to be closed or reserved.

Parking Information Booths

To better assist visitors to campus we maintain our Parking Information Booth at the northeast entrance to campus.  The ‘infobooth’ is typically open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Fridays.  The booth may be un-staffed when classes are NOT in session.
